In this project we were tasked with creating a piece of art to represent either past or present social injustice issues; I chose the glass ceiling. The glass ceiling is a metaphor referring to the indivisible barrier women face when trying to climb up the ladder of success and achieve power positions. The concept of the glass ceiling originated during the middle 1980s, although still very relevant today to women, there has been a visible increase in women reaching power positions. This metaphor does not only apply to women because other minorities are also often discriminated against in the workplace. “Roughly 85 percent of corporate executives and board members are white men, a metric that creates a very real and very imposing glass ceiling.” My painting represents this invisible barrier minorities face .

This college is how me and my group perceive american culture. The symbols all represent different things, the words reading "Education" at the bottom represent how lucky we are to have the education we have access to in America. The picture in the top left shows how the american system is built for upper-class citizens.
